How to Use Digital Marketing for Black Friday Sales

Has anyone else noticed the mass amounts of giveaways on their Instagram feed this week? Well, they certainly got my attention, I mean who doesn’t like winning free stuff? Social media giveaways are a great way to get customer’s attention and increase engagement around Black Friday and the holiday season. Here are some examples I have seen on my Instagram feed:

Sprout Social mentions that there was a 21% increase in Black Friday mentions on social media over the past year. This may be due to COVID-19 and a majority of people switching to online shopping, or simply because social media is constantly emerging. Either way, companies would be silly for not taking advantage this marketing opportunity.


Let’s talk about how to use Black Friday to your advantage when it comes to marketing. Let’s use Gymshark as an example. First, they collaborated with influencers to create awareness of the Black Friday sale. Gymshark had all of their athletes and affiliates post about their Black Friday sale that went live on November 17, 2022.

Their athletes and affiliates went above and beyond for creating awareness about the sale, and in return, they are given their own link that fans can use to support them.


Gymshark also set up an email campaign to alert their customers of this huge sale.

Email campaigns drive an average ROI of $36 per dollar spent (Litmus). This is a win-win because the company earns money and you get discounts.

Hootsuite mentions that your website should be mobile-friendly, due to most people doing holiday shopping via their phones. Yep, you guessed it… Gymshark’s website is super mobile-friendly and showcases the sales as soon as you click on their website. They even give you the option to choose if you’d like to shop the men’s or women’s sale.
