Verity
Colleen Hoover

Wow. I haven't picked up a book in quite some time, but I am so glad this was the one that got me back into reading. This author is so incredibly talented, I wish to write books like her one day.

This book is TWISTED. I don't know how this author came up with the plot, but holy shit it was amazing. Just when you think you know what's going to happen next, something crazy happens. This book is an absolute page turner. I probably could have read it all in one sitting if the time permitted itself.

I don't want to say too much, but just know it is definitely worth the read.

November 9th
Colleen Hoover

As many people are right now, I am currently on a Colleen Hoover kick. I made it my goal this summer to read a decent amount of her books. It took me some time after reading Verity to start another one of her books, but this was a good one to follow up with. However, since Verity and November 9th both focus mainly on a female and a male character, it was hard for me to read November 9th without associating it with the characters from Verity. But once I was able to get over that hunch, I was hooked on this book. I felt all the feels with this one. The author did such a great job describing the characters and emotions, I wish so badly it was a movie so I could actually see the characters. The plot of this book isn't as crazy as Verity, but you still need to expect the unexpected. Everything comes together at the end, and for some reason I found myself sobbing crying when I finished it.

I think I also really enjoyed this book because my boyfriend and I were in a very similar situation, so it made it a bit relatable.

My only complaint would be that the timeline of the book leaves out so much time, it makes me wonder what happened within that frame.

Where The Crawdads Sing
Delia Owens

I had multiple people tell me I needed to read this book, so I took a break from Colleen Hoover to dive into this one. It was a slow read at first, I can't say I was immediately drawn into it, but after a few chapters I was super intrigued. The book is based in North Carolina in the 1960s-1970s, and I think the author did a great job of describing the setting for us. At first I thought the descriptions were almost distracting; going into too much detail or providing us with unnecessarily long descriptions. BUT, as I got through more chapters, I'm glad we were given such descriptions. I felt as if I was able to imagine this entire book, detail by detail, which is probably why they made it into a movie!

I was reading this book at red lights, that how into I was towards the end. I wasn't too crazy about the constant shifting back and forth from year to year, but I think for the sake of this plot, it worked out. And yes... I cried at the end.

I also went to see the movie... It was good if you haven't read the book. I don't want to say too much about it, but I liked the book so much more.

It Ends With Us
Colleen Hoover

Surprise surprise, another Colleen Hoover book... I went into this book a bit unaware of the context, however, there is definitely a trigger warning for those people who have experienced abusive relationships. It was unfortunate to see that the author based this off a true story from her parents, but I was very impressed that she was able to write such an amazing story from it. I think the storyline of this book was amazing and I that the character development was brilliant.

I think this book was also a "lesson," if you will, for people who have never experienced abuse like this. It is hard for people on the outside to understand why it's so difficult to leave toxic and abusive relationships, but this book does a great job of putting us inside the character's head so we can understand why. I felt super attached to the characters and was really rooting for them, but once we saw the other side of them, my opinion quickly changed.

I also enjoyed how quickly I was able to read this one.

I am looking forward to reading the sequel, It Begins With Us.
